Connecting Conversations Exhibition at CoolArt Picture Framing + Gallery, Coolum My paintings are inspired by pauses in my daily life where I converse, interact or observe fellow human beings and connect briefly in time yet longer in memory. The exchange in the studio warps and moves into an alternate entity; a fabrication from the fading memory which emerges as a myriad of moments rather than a single time-frame. How I felt, as well as my inattention, changing viewpoints and focusing or zooming in on specific things, surfaces as I paint, interchanging with my present situation. Acrylic paint is used as a vehicle to interpret and communicate these remembered traces. Drawn or brushed, the transparent, opaque, saturated or muted colours form lines and shapes on my canvases seeking to give balance, contrast and energy to the evolving composition. I strive to give clarity to the experience by letting go of preconceived ideas and allowing an obscured truth to emerge. Awareness of what it is to be human such as: the ephemerality, joy, movement and uncertainty are what my work aspires to.
